Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday sought the resignation of union minister of state for north-eastern and NRI affairs Gen VK Singh (retd) for his "highly objectionable remarks" against Chief of Army Staff designate Lt Gen Dalbir Singh.

Speaking during the motion of thanks on the President's address in the Lok Sabha, Amarinder referred to Gen VK Singh's tweet in which the latter had described Lt Gen Dalbir Singh as a "criminal" and his men as "dacoits".

The Congress MP said it was highly condemnable that a minister in the NDA government, who had himself served as the Chief of Army Staff, had "denigrated such a great institution like the Indian army, which is one of the best in the world and is respected for its professional excellence all over."

Amarinder asserted that in case Gen Singh did not resign on his own, he must be dismissed from the government. He said such remarks could only demoralise the army.
