Names of Sushil Aggarwal , Sanjay Sharma , Jagmohan and Chander Mohan Fauji were thought to be in the fray.

Former party president Atam Parkash Manchanda and senior leader Sanjay Bhatia had been appointed to conduct the election.

Finally, it was announced that Jagmohan would be the new president. However, at this there was complete chaos for 15 minutes.

It was only after Sanjay Bhatia clarified again that Jagmohan had been elected the president that sanity prevailed and Kataria, Manchanda, Saini, former MLAs Veena Chibber and Faquir Chand Aggarwal made a beeline to congratulate the new president.
