A Class 4 student of SA Jain Model School, Ambala, Shivam (10) died after he accidentally fell into a well of a gurdwara on Novelty Cinema Road on Friday.

Police said that after a school exam, the victim was waiting for an auto to get home and started playing with a friend, and fell into the well. After daylong efforts, the army took out his body at 5.30pm.

Police said they had reached the spot in time and started the rescue work, but none from the administration reached till 2.30pm even, though the accident had taken place at 11.30 am.

The relatives and friends of the deceased blocked National Highway-1 for a few minutes, following which the administration called the army that struggled for two hours and used water pumps to take out water from the well and recover the child’s body.

The deceased’s parents – Sapna and Lakhwinder – residents of Jaggi Colony, said they had been waiting for Shivam to reach home. The child could have been saved had the rescue work been started early, they added.
