Haryana health minister Anil Vij announced a reward worth Rs 1 lakh for schools that enroll all girls of their areas.

He made the announcement during the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao Programme held at mini secretariat, Sector-1, here on Saturday.

He urged the social and religious societies and khap panchayats to join the programme. "They must conduct meetings and pledge not to commit female foeticide. No government can succeed without people's participation," he said.

"The programme will run in 100 districts of the country, including the 12 districts of Haryana that have abysmal sex ratio," Vij added.

The health minister unveiled the programme's calendar, published by the state information, public relations and cultural affairs department. He also flagged off promotional vehicles that would travel across the district from January 17 to 19.

The students of Government Primary School, Abhaypur, presented a short drama titled 'Nanhi Pukar'.
