A media interaction of actors Om Puri and Durga Jasraj turned ugly here on Sunday evening when journalists and officials of the Haryana public relations department mobbed the celebrities at a private hotel.
Puri, Durga and 16 others were in the town to receive awards at a function organised by Haryana Institute of Fine Arts (HIFA).
Soon after the awardees were introduced at the press meet, several reporters and lensmen mobbed the celebrities.
Before the scheduled question-answer session could begin, the media persons and a few local public relations officials rushed towards the actors to get clicked with them.
Owing to the unruly journalists, the press conference was cancelled.
With chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda as its chairman and Vidhan Sabha speaker Kuldeep Sharma as its patron, several politicians and industrialists are associated with the Karnal-based NGO.
The annual awards are given to those who belong to Haryana and had contributed in the fields of art, culture and other selected fields.
On being asked about his controversial speech against parliamentarians during Anna Hazare's movement against corruption, Puri said his observation was based on various unruly incidents at various state assemblies.
Visibly annoyed with the mob, Puri left the venue and other awardees too moved away from the hotel's hall to their respective rooms.
The goofed up
Pradeep Kumar, a mute and deaf artist, was asked to speak about his art and achievement at the meet. As the meet was about to wind up, two awardees, including a woman, announced that they were not given a chance to speak.
NK Minda, a leading industrialist and one of the awardees, did not turn up to receive his award. Minda's name was announced for a HIFA award in 2011 as well, but was not given to him.
