The local police have revealed the name of another man, who is alleged to have been a business partner of NK Goel, a resident of Chandigarh, who was arrested for allegedly helping the dismissed deputy superintendent of police (DSP) GS Bains in his illegal activities.

The police have also seized some property papers during the search of the house of Bains, from whose lockers over ` 61 lakh were recovered, in Ludhiana.

The police revealed this before a court here while seeking extension of the police remand on Monday. Meanwhile, the court has extended the police remand of Bains till April 3.

Gursharandeep Singh Grewal, superintendent of police (detective), who was investigating officer in the case, demanded extension of the police remand as Bains had not revealed the channels from where the recovered money originated.

Moreover, during the investigation, Goel said that he was into the business of export and import with Ravi, who hails from Ludhiana and claimed to be the source of the money and also gave some address, but when the police conducted a raid on the given address, nothing was found as per Goel’s statement and even Goel did not show any licence or document of the said business, Grewal told the court.

Grewal also said that the police were continuously raiding the premises of the suspects in the case in Ludhiana.

Talking to HT, Grewal said, “We are investigating more deeply as Goel is having connections with the hawala scandal as well, and we are also getting details of the assets owned by Bains.”

Grewal said that Goel was involved in 13 more cases of the NDPS Act in Bombay and Chandigarh and other cities as well.
