Vice-president Mohammad Hamid Ansari will inaugurate the 8th Jammu and Kashmir Science Congress here on Monday.
The theme of this year's Science Congress is 'Science, Technology and Regional Development: Opportunities & Challenges'.
Around 600 research papers will be presented at the three-day event which is expected to be attended by over 1,000 delegates from across the country, a spokesperson of the Kashmir University said.
Ansari, who arrived here on Friday, is currently on a five-day tour of Kashmir.
Governor N N Vohra and chief minister Omar Abdullah will also attend the inaugural session of the science congress.
The main objective for the science congress is to provide an opportunity to the participants from the state to interact with leading scientists from other parts of the country, the spokesperson said.
The interactions are likely to broaden the scientific and technological understanding of scientists from the state, improve research and teaching of sciences, improve quality of scientific man-power and encourage interdisciplinary research, vice-chancellor Kashmir University Talat Ahmad said.
The first, third, fifth and seventh editions of J&K Science Congress were held at the University of Jammu, while second, fourth and sixth editions were organised at the University of Kashmir.
