The fashion world is known for bizarre trends. But, with the fashion scene changing every day, youngsters are picking up trends rather enthusiastically. This season, it is cross-dressing that is doing the rounds in fashion circles — so you’ll either find a girl wearing a ‘boyfriend’ shirt or baggy jeans or a guy wearing an ear stud or a scarf. Anupreet Sidhu, a stylist at Sidhu Ji, tells us how the trend is fresh and here to stay. “Every individual has two sides — feminine and masculine. So, when guys dress up in girly scarves and baby pinks, it’s kind of cute. Also, they get to explore their feminine side. Guy clothing is so much more comfortable!”
So, ditch that jeans-and-T-shirt look and move out of your comfort zone.
For the dudes
Scarves: They are the easiest to try in cross-dressing as they instantly add a style statement and colour up your wardrobe. Scarves also complete the beach look and are perfect to protect against the summer sun.
Baali/stud: This one has almost become a staple with our Punjabi munda’s. For those, who haven’t tried it on yet, it’s high time, you did. It gives an edge to your look, and goes well with both formal and casual looks.
Coloured denims/pants: Coloured denims were in the last season, and they will be a high this season too. The only difference is that this time it’s the guys who are big on adding colour to their pants. To start with, you could go with subtler shades such as beige, pastels, and move on to colours like green and electric blue.
Satchel: They are spacious and easy to carry. Nischal Masand, a photographer and designer recommends carrying a satchel, saying he finds it the most comfortable.
Feminine shades for Tees: What are considered as essentially girly colours – pinks and oranges – are no longer considered out-of-men’s domain. Quirk up your wardrobe with a pink T-shirt this summer.
For the damsels
Boyfriend shirts: These shirts have been around for a while now, with many a celeb swearing by them. All you have to do is ransack your boyfriend’s cupboard and get hold of a shirt. Wear it loose or tuck it in but make sure you pair the large-sized shirt with tight fitting jeans, jeggings or leggings. You could also add shape to your frame by using a belt. Boyfriend shirts are comfortable and look sexy. For the overall look, you can wear your hair up in a high pony or a bun.
Baggy jeans: Tight fitting jeans look great on girls, but sometimes, a change is all we need to revamp our look. That is when baggy jeans come to our aid. Again, pair them with a well-fitted top. You can leave the length on, or roll them into smart hems!
His watches: Watches are a great style statement. Girls can now ditch those elegant wristwatches and instead try something chunky. They look sporty and break the monotony of regular dressing.
Shady shades: Believe us; nothing is sexier than wearing grand, oversized shades. Run and grab your guy’s gladiators or wayfarers, and you wouldn’t want to part with them.
Caps: You can’t complete the sporty look without donning his cap/hat. It covers up for shade and you look like the biker chic girl everybody wants.
