Newly appointed chief of army staff General Bikram Singh on Friday reviewed an overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir during his visit to northern command at Udhampur.
"General Bikram Singh this morning arrived at northern command in Udhampur," official spokesman said in Jammu.
"The army chief had a detailed interaction with Lt Gen KT Parnaik, general officer commanding-in-chief (GOC-in-C), northern command," he said, adding that during the meeting, the army chief was apprised of the current security situation and the operational preparedness in northern command, as well as the complex dynamics of the proxy war situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Gen Singh will also visit Srinagar where he will be briefed by general officer commanding, Chinar Corps and will proceed to forward areas for meeting and interacting with troops deployed on the Line of Control (LoC).
"During his visit to Srinagar, the General will also make a courtesy call on Governor NN Vohra and chief minister Omar Abdullah," the spokesman said.
General Bikram Singh has immense experience and knowledge of the operational dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir since he has the distinction of commanding a battalion, RR sector, division as well as a corps in northern command in the past.
