The Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) on Thursday joined hands with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Chandigarh, and various other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to extend helping hand to flood affected families in Jammu and Kashmir.

Three trucks of food material, blankets and mineral water bottles were sent to Jammu and Kashmir. An appeal was also made to the citizens of the tricity to make generous voluntary donations in the form of blankets, warm clothing and food items/tinned or pre-cooked food and bottled drinking water.

Special collection centres are operating within Chandimandir Cantonment at Shopping Complex, Khetrapal Officers Institute (KOI), Defence Service Officers Institute (DSOI), Sector 36, Chandigarh, Command Hospital and Shakti Dwar, Chandimandir, to collect the donated items.
Arrangements have been made by the Western Command to transport the necessities to Jammu and Kashmir by air as well as by road.

This is as voluntary effort by AWWA to augment the massive rescue and relief operations undertaken by the army, air force and navy.

"The response of the NGOs and citizens of Chandigarh has been very encouraging and will go a long way to provide timely aid to the flood affected victims," a defence spokesperson said.
