Additional district and sessions judge KK Kareer on Monday deferred the pronouncement of quantum of sentence in the Aroma murder case to Tuesday, as lawyers did not appear before the court owing to a strike.
Convicts Sukhjeet Singh Sooch, 29, of Phase 11, SAS Nagar; Harsimranjeet Singh, 28, a resident of Sector 44; Chandan Singh, 24; Sandeep Kumar, 27; Gautam Singh, 23, of Burail; Anand Singh, 27, and Mahavir Singh, 25, both residents of Sector 41; and Prashant Kumar Dabral, 31, a resident of Sector 49, have been held guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the case.
Meanwhile, the convicts filed reply to the application moved by Harmesh Kaur, mother of the victim, Harminder Singh, who was done to death by the convicts in January 2012, seeking compensation of 5 lakh from each convict.
Claiming that there was no provision of filing such an application at this stage, the convicts sought dismissal of the application, stating that Harmesh Kaur was neither a complainant nor a witness.Therefore, such an application at a belated stage was not maintainable.
It was on January 12, 2012, midnight when an MBA student Harminder Singh, 23, was killed in a brawl outside Aroma Hotel at Sector 22. An MBA student, Harminder had recently returned from Ireland.
