Hundreds of followers of Asaram Bapu, most of them women, took out a peaceful march to protest the registration of a rape case against him. They alleged that he had been falsely implicated in the case.

Starting from a temple in Sector 23, Chandigarh, the disciples holding placards and banners along with photographs of their spiritual guru covered a distance of 8 kilometers before concluding the march at Kali Mandir in Sector 30.

Accusing political leaders of tarnishing the image of their guru through their statements, the disciples even burnt the effigies of JD(U) president Sharad Yadav and CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta.

“It is unfortunate that a spiritual leader faces such accusations. They are using a minor girl to target Guruji. Political leaders are trying to gain political mileage by accusing the spiritual leader, ” said Pushpinder Kaur, a disciple.

“Guruji has been falsely implicated and all we are demanding justice. By implicating the saint in such false cases, certain forces are trying to tarnish his image,” said Rajinder Singh, another disciple.
