Ashutosh's 'son' wants to perform his last rites

In a twist to the controversy over the 'death' of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan head Ashutosh Maharaj, Bihar native Dalip Kumar Jha has claimed that he would go to any extent to bring back the body of his father and perform his last rites.

In a new twist to the controversy over the 'death' of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (DJJS) head Ashutosh Maharaj, Bihar native Dalip Kumar Jha has said he'd go to any extent to bring back the body of his father and perform his last rites in the sect head's native village Lakhnaur in Bihar's Madhuwani district.

Challenging the DJJS management's claims that Ashutosh had no family, Jha, talking to Hindustan Times from his native village, said he and his mother Anandi Devi, 70, were upset at the DJJS's "lies". "My father's original name is Mahesh Jha. He left the family in 1973 when I was one-year-old. I am ready for a DNA test and to perform my father's last rites. We are exploring all options," said 1972-born Jha, a graduate who is running a grocery shop in his village.

HT had on January 29 reported these details, but the sect management termed the talk about Ashutosh's family as baseless. Ashutosh, a graduate in English, as per Jha, had left the family to pursue higher studies in Delhi. "But he never returned," he said. (For the story, read Hindustan Times)
