ASI thrashed during property dispute

The local police on Tuesday booked 12 people by name and about 40 others in Pinjore for beating up an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) on duty who had gone to the spot to control the situation that arose out of a property dispute. A theft was also reported from the spot.

According to the police, Jugal Kishore, who runs New Tourist Hotel and Restaurant in Pinjore, had taken the premises on rent from a Chandigarh resident 35 years ago. On Monday evening, Jaspreet Bawa, Ranjeet Singh along with some youths asked Kishore to vacate the shop.

They gave him 10 minutes, threatening that they would occupy the premises. However, they went back. At 11 pm on Monday, Kishore got a call some people were trying to grab his hotel and he called the police. On reaching the hotel, he found that Jaspreet Bawa, Ranjeet Singh along with 50-60 youths were loading his belongings in a truck.

ASI Mange Ram who reached the spot with his team was also beaten up. He was taken to a hospital. A case under Sections 148 (for rioting armed with deadly weapon) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 149 (for being a member of unlawful assembly), 323 (for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 ( for criminal intimidation), 457 (for trespass) and 380 (theft) has been registered against the property grabbers.
