The local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders failed to put up a united face during the thanksgiving rally organised in Sector 32 on Friday evening.
While former MP Satya Pal Jain did not attend the rally, another leader, Harmohan Dhawan, was among the first ones to leave the rally ground.
Chaos ruled at the function venue in Sector 32 in which over 1,000 workers participated. Sources said that Jain was upset because he was not consulted about the schedule of the rally and though he was in Chandigarh, but did not attend the rally.
Dhawan, too, is learnt to have been upset for organisers not giving him ‘due importance’. The rally was attended by newly-elected MP Kirron Kher, party af fairs incharge (Chandigarh) Aarti Mehra and local unit head Sanjay Tandon, among other party leaders.
Speaking at the function, Kirron said that she would stay in the city and work for the betterment of the UT.
She thanked the party functionaries for the hard work they had put in to get her elected with a record margin.
Kirron said that she would listen to the grievances of each and every resident of Chandigarh. In her address, Aarti Mehra thanked the local leaders as well as party workers, saying it was all because of their efforts that party won the seat after a gap of 15 years.
Sanjay Tandon in his address thanked residents of Chandigarh for electing Kirron. “The party understands its responsibilities and party leaders will work together to serve the city beautiful.
We love this city and all of us will take Chandigarh forward,” he said.
