Attempt to entice a minor; lands surrey based coach in US jail

Surrey-based soccer coach who allegedly flew to Washington to meet a 12-year-old girl for sex is held in US jail.

According to court documents, Kuldip “Kelly” Singh Mahal, 47, is considered a flight risk and a danger to the community.

The judge noted that there were strong evidence against Mahal and there was no effective way to supervise him once he returns to Canada.

Mahal was arrested in Burlington, Washington on February 3 for attempting to entice a minor, as per the law, he can be imprisoned upto 10 years.

U.S. authorities allege Mahal drove across the border intending to meet a girl he had contacted on Craigslist; in fact, he had been conversing with an undercover agent.

Mahal had allegedly sent explicit messages and photos of himself to the "girl" and asked her to do the same.

Mahal, a facilities manager for a Vancouver tech firm, has been suspended as a coach of the Surrey United under 16 club.
