Nearly 50 persons, claiming to have booked flats, villas and plots at three sectors being developed in SAS Nagar by real estate developer Unitech Builders, protested outside the company's office at Sector 17 here on Saturday.

The protesters claimed that the company had promised to give possession of the properties to them by 2010, but was yet to do anything.

The Unitech Group is in a contract with Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and developing sectors 97, 106 and 107 in SAS Nagar. The protesters claimed that the company, depending on the type of property bought, had taken between Rs 10 lakh to 2 crore from them in 2008. Construction began in 2008 and they were promised possession by 2010-end.

Speaking to HT, Megha Singh, who led the protest, said, "The company has been making false promises for the past three years now. After failing to keep its promise in 2010, officials have been guaranteeing possession on Diwali since last 2011. But nothing's happened so far".

He further alleged that the company had given the land on lease to a private bank and earning a profit.

"The company's regional marketing manager told us today that he has been called to Gurgaon head office on Wednesday to complete all the formalities about possession, so we will wait till then," he further added. All attempts made by HT to contact company officials were futile.
