Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal ordered to extend all possible legal and financial assistance to Burundi national Yannick Nihangaza, a student studying in the Lovely Professional University at Jalandhar, who sustained serious injuries following a criminal assault on him by a group of youngsters on April 21.
Stating this on Sunday, a chief minister's office (CMO) spokesperson said that Badal gave his nod to bear the expenditure for Yannick's treatment at Columbia Asia Hospital in Patiala, where he was admitted.
He said on the request of Yannick's father Nestor Ntibateganya, the state government would soon arrange for an air ambulance to shift the injured student to Delhi besides paying the air fare for both Yannick and his father from Delhi to take him to the nearest hospital in Rwanda.
Meanwhile, Badal assured Ntibateganya that all the culprits involved in this heinous crime would be soon punished as per the law of the land.
A case had already been registered and the public prosecutor had been asked to pursue the case vigorously for ensuring exemplary punishment to the culprits by the courts so that foreign students coming to state for pursuing higher studies feel safe and secure, said Badal.
