Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday had a hectic schedule in Delhi, as he called on different union ministers taking up the issues of concern ranging from drug de-addiction to Punjabis stranded in Iraq.
The CM called on union minister of state for sports Sarbnanda Sonowal, seeking help to develop sports infrastructure in Punjab, as that would help the state government in curbing drug addiction among the youth. He asked Sonowal for a centre of excellence in hockey at Jalandhar and that of football in Mahilpur in Hoshiarpur, besides the much awaited centre of excellence for martial arts at Anandpur Sahib.
Badal also demanded to revive the lost glory of the National Institute of Sports (NIS) at Patiala, a spokesman here said.
Sonowal assured the Punjab chief minister all help that included the deployment of foreign coaches at the Patiala NIS, besides taking up the sports infrastructure in the state on priority basis, the spokesman said.
Badal also called on external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, taking up the issue of Punjabis stranded in Iraq. HE also called on finance minister Arun Jaitley, thanking him for the budgetary provisions for Punjab.
