Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has directed the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to release tubewell connections to farmers under the Accelerated Release of Tubewell Connections (ARTC) scheme within three months after the submission of the test report.

A decision to this effect was taken by Badal at a meeting with the delegation of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) led by president Balbir Singh Rajewal at the chief minister's residence here on Saturday evening.

Badal told the PSPCL chairman to direct the officials to ensure that the guidelines be complied with.

On the issue of the voluntary disclosure scheme to slash the rate for enhancing the load capacity of motors in view of the depleting water table, the chief minister informed the delegation that the PSPCL chairman had already taken up the issue with the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission so that the matter could be resolved amicably at the earliest.

To another demand for ensuring uninterrupted power supply for eight hours for the ongoing paddy season, Badal told the PSPCL chairman to intensify efforts to provide adequate power supply to the farmers.

Badal also asked the chief engineer, canals, to revert to the old system of levying abiana so that water charges on canal water used by the farmers could be rationalised to their advantage.
