Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday reiterated his request to union chemicals and fertilisers minister Ananth Kumar to ensure timely supply of the balance requirement of urea for the state for ensuring that the rabi crop for 2014-15 was not adversely affected.

In a letter to Kumar, the CM emphasised that as per allocations made by the ministry, Punjab was to receive 3.35 lakh tonnes of urea, against which the state has received only 2.4 lakh tonnes, leaving a monthly deficit of 95,081 tonnes.

The CM urged Kumar that supplies of urea to Punjab be increased to make up for the shortfall. He also requested the Union minister to advise the officials concerned of the ministry to keep this shortfall in view while making allocation of urea and DAP (diammonium phosphate) to Punjab for December 2014.
