Citing forensic reports from SAS Nagar and Chandigarh, police have claimed that in the July 10 accident at Chaklan village near here, no bus of the Badal family was involved.
Dabwali Transport Company of state's ruling family got this clean chit from additional director general of police (ADGP) Iqbalpreet Singh Sahota on Friday here. Scooterist Swaran Singh of Behrampur Zimidara village was killed in this accident on his way home from Kurali. Eyewitnesses had claimed that a Badal bus had knocked him down.
After his death, villagers had placed his body on the Rupnagar-Chandigarh road and blocked traffic. Police had then laid blame on a car driver and booked him. The villagers, including eyewitness Jagtar Singh, contested the police version. Sahota was asked to lead a special investigation team to solve the case.
Experts from Chandigarh's Central Forensic Science Laboratory were called to the scene, while the SIT recorded the statements of the bus passengers and eyewitnesses. A report from Forensic Science Laboratory, SAS Nagar, stated clearly that neither the bus nor the car had collided with the scooter, while the analysis in Chandigarh suggested the car's hitting the scooter from the rear might have caused it to deviate into the road divider. The CFSL report noted damage to the car's windscreen, possibly from its collision with the scooter.
