Badal slams Haryana move on separate gurdwara committee

Terming as ill-conceived, arbitrary and unconstitutional the move of the Congress government in Haryana to constitute a separate body for the management of gurdwaras, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday said the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government’s nefarious designs to divide the Sikhs would never materialise.

Talking to mediapersons after the instalation ceremony of the newly-appointed chairman of Punjab State Rajput Kalyan Board, Capt RS Pathania (retd) who assumed the charge of his office at Forest Complex in Sector 68, SAS Nagar, the chief minister said this was a desperate attempt of the Congress government, which was already on the verge of its ouster from power in the state, to woo the Sikh voters.

Badal said as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) came into existence by an act of Parliament so it was solely authorised to take any decision on this matter.

“We have already met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union home minister Rajnath Singh over this issue and we will take every possible step to foil the attempt of Haryana government to divide the SGPC,” added Badal.

On the occasion, congratulating Capt RS Pathania (retd) for taking the charge of new assignment, the CM hoped that the board would act as catalyst for ensuring the all round development and welfare of the community.
