The special Nation Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Saturday rejected the bail application of Rajinder Chaudhary, who allegedly planted bomb in the Samjhauta train.
On February 18, 2007, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) had exploded on the Lahore-bound Samjhauta Express near Dewana railway station, Panipat, killing 68 people and injuring 12. Most of the victims were Pakistanis.
The court extended the time for filing the chargesheet against Chaudhary from 90 to 180 days.
On accused Lokesh Sharma's application against providing statements of protected witnesses where their names and addresses were blackened, the NIA, through its counsels RK Handa and Rajan Malhotra, submitted that at the evidence stage the copies of statements could be given. It added that similar matter had been decided by the court and the judge could not review its orders. The case will come up for heating on May 9.
