Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa on Thursday met party president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi. He told her that political terrorism was prevailing in Punjab amid corruption in the functioning of the Akali-BJP government.
Bajwa told Sonia that the state government was neck-deep in corruption and central funds for various development and welfare schemes were being embezzled with impunity.
Accusing chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of shielding corrupt ministers, Bajwa said cabinet ministers Gulzar Singh Ranike and Sikander Singh Maluka were directly involved in misappropriation of central funds.
He said Ranike was responsible for siphoning off more than Rs 20 crore of grants meant for border area development, but the chief minister gave him the clean chit.
Bajwa told the UPA chairperson that education minister Maluka misused funds worth crores of rupees from Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. The media and the Congress exposed the minister's misdeeds, he pointed out.
Bajwa requested Sonia to ask the ministries concerned to send special investigating teams to probe charges of embezzlement of central funds.
