The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday accused Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa of betraying Punjab's farmers by taking them to New Delhi on the pretext of meeting UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for "getting a special package for the state peasantry".
Party secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra and public works department (PWD) minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said it was unfortunate that Bajwa took farmers for a ride on false assurances. "Sonia don't even bother to come out and meet the delegation led by Bajwa," the Akali leaders said.
They asked him to clear his position on Congress MLA Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria's allegations about prominence given to drug traffickers in the state Congress.
Cautioning farmers of the state about "hollow" promises made by Bajwa, Chandumajra said Congress workers taken to Delhi had felt humiliated and exploited.
