The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday accused Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa of inciting his party's legislators to disrupt the sangat darshan (public contact) programmes of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.

In a joint statement issued here, senior Akali leaders, including jails and cultural affairs minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Youth Akali Dal (YAD) president and revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia, and education minister Sikander Singh Maluka claimed Bajwa was now resorting to desperate steps to save his tottering chair after the failure of his "mass-contact" programme in the state.

"The Punjab Congress' conspiracy to disrupt the sangat darshan programmes is clear from the immature behavior of Gidderbaha legislator Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, who tried to work against own constituents who had come to the CM to get their demands addressed," reads the joint statement. He had proved to be the enemy of those who had elected him, the leaders added.
