Bal Niketan supervisor molested 7 girls, UT social welfare dept finds in inquiry

A 50-year-old supervisor at Bal Niketan, a destitute home run by an NGO for orphan girls in Sector 15, molested seven inmates for months, a UT social welfare department inquiry has revealed.

Bal Niketan Society r uns the facility and the department has submitted the report to the UT deputy commissioner-cum-president of the society.

The accused has been identified as Manish Arora, a father of two daughters. The report claims that he used to molest girls aged between 8 and18 years by frequently touching their ‘private’ parts. Two attendants Manjit Kaur and Meena Sharma have been indicted in the report for not reporting the incident.

The matter came in to light on April 2 , after complaint was received on child helpline number 1098, reportedly from the Bal Niketan inmates. After the complaint was forwarded to the social welfare department, orders for an inquiry were issued and a four-member committee was set up on April 3.

After recording the statements of the office bearers of the society and the inmates, the committee found that complaint received on the child helpline against the supervisor Manish Kumar was genuine.

“He (Manish Arora) used to sexually harass the resident girls, ” statest he inquiry. It added that that all the girls had told attendant Manjit Kaur about the misbehavior of the supervisor. The attendant reported the same to Meena, a senior to her, who however took no action and sat on her complaint.

Director of the Social Welfare department, Rajesh Jogpal said that the report has indicted the main accused along with two attendants for equally sharing the responsibility of this inhuman act and not reporting the matter to their seniors.
