Keeping in view the decision taken by the Centre, the Chandigarh administration has decided to ban all web-based taxis operating in the city, including OLA Cabs, Taxi for Sure and Meru Cabs.

After the ban, only three authorised registered radio taxi companies namely Mega Cabs, RBTS Cabs and Fab Cabs, will be operational in the city.

The UT administration has issued a release that it is advisable not to travel in any unauthorised cab service and should use or hire only authorised radio taxi services, which are allowed by the State Transport Authority, UT.

The UT State Transport Authority (STA) had launched a drive against unauthorised taxies in the city, with over 50 taxi drivers fined in past week for violating rules.

Moreover, 10 web-based cabs were impounded in the city for plying without permit.

Uber, Meru and Taxi for Sure's cabs were also impounded in the UT administration's crackdown. The STA has already issued notices to Meru and Taxi for Sure for their violations.
