Railways minister Pawan Kumar Bansal on Sunday criticised the BJP for what he described as the saffron party's habit of creating hindrance in the smooth functioning of Parliament.
Bansal, who was speaking at a function organised to induct local BJP leaders in the Congress, said the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had out of frustration not allowed Parliament to function smoothly in the past four years. “They (BJP leaders) are misleading people by giving false statements,” he said while predicting a Congress victory in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. “They are not concerned about the welfare of the people,” he said.
He also used the platform to wax eloquent on the “Congress' commitment to development”.
Former BJP councilor Surinder Kumar Jagota, Kulbir Singh along with several members of BJP on Sunday joined the Congress in the presence of Bansal and Chandigarh Congress president BB Bahl during a function at the Sector 23 market.
Bansal welcomed the leaders on the occasion. “Congress government has done a lot for the country's development and has launched several schemes for all strata of society. The UPA government introduced the RTI Act, which empowers the people to question the government on most things in the public sphere,” he said.
Among others present on the occasion included Bansal's wife Madhu, mayor Subash Chawla, congress councilors Pardeep Chhabra, Poonam Sharma and several other local leaders.
Earlier, Bansal also attended a meeting of sarpanches of all villages, members of zila parishad and panchayat samiti at Sector 28.
