Now, the girl students will have reading-cum-library hall at their hostels.
The local member of Parliament (MP) Pawan Bansal had recommended Rs 20 lakh from Member of Parliament Local Area Development fund (MPLAD) for the purpose.
The university had received a letter from the Union Territory (UT) administration for the same on Wednesday.
Panjab University Student Council president Chandan Rana said student council members had submitted a memorandum to the local MP in this regard in December.
He added that Rs 20 lakh would be spent for construction of the library-cum-reading room and additional Rs 5 lakh for the construction of an additional stall near the existing ones at the Students Centre. Rana thanked Bansal for his gesture and stated that this would solve the pending demand of the students. The student council claimed that the facility would help nearly 3,000 students.
