Former union minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has given Rs 50 lakh out of his Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) fund for wi-fi installation in 14 colleges of the city.
The colleges which would be benefited, include Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11; Government College, Sector 46; Government College for Girls, Sector 11; Government College for Girls, Sector 42; Government College of Commerce and Business Administration, Sector 42; Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College for Women, Sector 26; Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College for Boys, Sector 26; Government Home Science College, Sector 10; DAV College, Sector 10; MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36; Goswami Ganesh Dutta SD College, Sector 32; Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45; Government College of Education, Sector 20 and Dev Samaj College for Education, Sector 36.
A city college teacher said the minister had given this money eyeing the assembly elections scheduled next year. After the recent rail-bribery scam, this was also being talked about as an exercise to improve the image, especially among the youngsters as they were the prospective voters.
Meanwhile, the minister has a budget of Rs 2 crore for MPLAD which he can spend for the local development. The money would be directed to the local DC office and the DC will further spend the money on installation of wi-fi system in the colleges.
