Pawan Kumar Bansal, member parliament, on Friday inaugurated the second overbridge at Sector-17, which was part of LeCorbusier's original plan.
The overbridge has been constructed from Anand theatre to KC theatre in Sector 17, at an estimated cost of `16 crore. It has 40 booths, two ladies and gents toilets each at both ends on the ground floor and it also has the provision of lifts.
Speaking on the occasion, Bansal appreciated the civic body for providing better facilities for the citizens of Chandigarh. He lauded the MC for improving and upgrading the existing infrastructure facilities in Sector-17 in a phased manner.
He said that earlier Chandigarh was known as a sleeping city but with the growth of social and physical infrastructure it was becoming the city of opportunities.
Mayor Subhash Chawla said the city centre had been planned as pedestrian paradise to achieve complete segregation of the pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
