Taking up a petition by mahant Tarsem Dass of Nirwansar Moom dera in Barnala that there’s a threat to his life and that of his followers, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday directed Barnala’s senior superintendent of police to submit a report about the perception.
The directions came from the court headed by justice MMS Bedi.
The petitioner claimed that in a dispute over managing the dera affairs, the civil court had granted him interim stay in March 2009; and on April 16 last year, his sewadars and he had come under an attack from sant Bhrigu Dass and 19 others of his village in the latter’s attempt to barge into the dera with weapons.
The petitioner has also accused cops of confining him and his sewadars in a police station, torturing them and capturing their nude photographs, besides also kidnapping mahant Sewa Dass, whose is reported to be missing since April 2012.
The petitioner has sought directions from the court for restraining Bhrigu Dass and his associates from entering the dera; and also demanded a case against them for murderous assault last year.
The court has received a request to provide the petitioner with the Central Reserve Police Force security. A representation in this regard is with the Barnala senior superintendent of police (SSP).
