The Haryana government has decided to introduce compulsory certificate course for basic level computer education in all government colleges in the state.

An official spokesperson said in a release on Wednesday that basic computer education (level I and level II) would be introduced along with first and second semester of BA, BSc and BCom. However, if a student would fail to clear any of the level, he would be given an opportunity to clear it during the second year, the spokesperson said, adding that after passing each level, a certificate would be granted to students along with their degrees by the university.

He said with the changing scenario in higher education, basic computer education had become a prerequisite for obtaining employment in most of the sectors.

Therefore, it was felt that basic computer education programme needed to be initiated in all government colleges where all students could have the opportunity to learn the basics of the IT education and learn sufficient IT skills to obtain basic level of employment.

He said out of total 96 government colleges, 88 had already established computer laboratories and efforts were on to establish computer laboratories in the remaining colleges also, where infrastructure was not available.
