Social media, especially Twitter, became battleground for great wars this year. Let's take a look some of the twitter wars between celebrities whose comments and conversation took a bad turn.
Kapil Sharma vs KRK
Kapil and KRK entered into a spat on Twitter when Kamaal R Khan posted a distasteful comment on Kapil Sharma making a debut in Yash Raj Film. Kamaal posted, "When YRF asked @NargisFakhri to do film with @KapilSharmaK9 She was laughing loudly n said sorry I don't have dates."
But this did not end here, as the DeshDrohi star further tweeted, "SMS of Nargis- I was shocked to hear offer of YRF to do film with comedian Kapil Sharma. I think they forgot that I was launched with Ranbir." After a number of hot exchanges, Kapil posted, "this is my last tweet to you... agar famous hona hai toh apne dum pe kuch kar... Dont use my name... Thappad bahut bhaari hai mera." Later Kapil deleted the entire conversation.
Gul Panag vs Kirron Kher
Just before the elections, Chandigarh candidates, Gul Panag (AAP) and Kirron Kher (BJP), too were seen locking horns virtually.
The catfight began when taking a dig at Kirron Kher, Gul tweeted: "Kirron Kher is a heavy weight in every sense in comparison to feather light Gul Panag!
Doubt if I'll have the energy to run around like this and serve my people, when I'm 60. I guess that's why there's normally a retirement age."
The tweet didn't go down well with Kirron, who replied, "I may not be a marathon runner but I know Slow and Steady wins the race. I love the Josh in our Karyakartas."
"My father is 101 years old and still happening. He said," Good Luck Puttar. You have Always been winner." For me Life starts at 60," she further tweeted.
Kirron Kher Vs Gul Panag Vs Suchitra Krishnamoorthi
The fight in the Chandigarh Lok Sabha constituency didn't end with the election results, as the two celeb contestants, Kirron Kher and Gul Panag, inadvertently found themselves in the middle of Twitter catfight again.
It started with actor-turned-author Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, who is also filmmaker Shekhar Kapur's ex-wife, making a rather distasteful comment about Panag, who lost to Kher. "Kirron Kher win over Gul Panag. India needs strong women & mothers, not cleavage flashers." (sic), read the tweet.
Within minutes, the post spurred strong criticism from Tweeple, including actor Sonam Kapoor, who posted, "I cannot believe a woman tweeted that. It's disgusting. Women are the biggest enemies of women."
Suchitra made it worse by responding with, "True. So if u ever aspire to political office, remember to put ur clothes back on (sic)."
While, both Kirron Kher and Gul Panag maintained silence, Kher's husband, actor Anupam Kher, said, "Complimenting one person by taking a dig at another is not good. Suchitra should not have done that."
After a strong chiding by Twitter users, including one who posted Kirron Kher's cleavage-baring pic to make a point, Suchitra deleted the offensive tweet and posted, "ok now i've had it with that last tweet-2 late 2 take it back. Not a personal attack on Gul but a general obsrvatn on political demeanor. my apologies to @GulPanag - but i stand by my statement that a young woman seen in a sexual context will not be taken seriously otherwise (sic)."
Omar and his uncle
The controversy erupted when one of the followers of Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah posed him a question on Twitter. Omar Abdullah replied: "He's my uncle and I have the greatest of respect for him. This matter is between him and my father, no reason to drag me into it."
Earlier, his uncle Sheikh Mustafa Kamal had accused Omar Abdullah of pressuring his father and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah of ousting Kamal from two key party positions. Farooq Abdullah had appointed Kamal to the party posts in early October, but had asked him to resign after a spate of controversial statements, including one asking Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi "to run his party (Congress) and not to reflect on the governance of the state government".
Omar Vs Mehr Tarar Vs Sunanda Pushkar
The "Twitter controversy" concerning the late Sunanda Puskhar, wife of Union minister Shashi Tharoor, was infact the most controversial and unfortunate twitter war out of all.
In a series of tweets, Pushkar, who had supposedly alleged that Tarar had been stalking her husband, had also hinted she (Tarar) had made "similar overtures" towards Abdullah, who, however, told HT he was dismayed at that and requested Pushkar not to drag him into a controversy.
Sunanda Pushkar was found dead days after accusing Tharoor of being 'unfaithful'.
Kirron Kher Vs Tweeple
Kirron Kher sparked a major controversy after making a comeback on Twitter after months of staying away from it.
Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher tweeted, "I am happy that I have been able to bring down the price of diesel in Chandigarh by Rs 2. Congrats to everyone."
Her tweet literally took twitter by the storm who mocked Kirron for her statement. One tweeted, "Is someone going to take credit for the increase in excise duty on petrol and diesel? Like Kirron Kher did the other day? #AccheDin"
Gul Panag Vs Tweeple
In the run up for Lok Sabha elections, actor-turned-politician Gul Panag found herself in a rather odd situation when her 2012 tweet favouring Narendra Modi got viral on Twitter. Tweeple asked her to explain her "NaMo for PM" tweet just two years ago.
Panag in a series of posts backed Narendra Modi for the country's top job. The tweeple fired potshots on her asking her to explain as to what circumstances led her to change parties.
