Taking cognisance of media reports related to officers' "unexceptional" behaviour of not giving due respect and courtesy to Union ministers and cabinet ministers of the state government, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday directed all officers concerned to ensure the presence of subdivisional officers and deputy superintendents of police during the official visits of these dignitaries.

The Kapurthala deputy commissioner had failed to turn up for a meeting of the district vigilance monitoring committee, called by Union minister of state Vijay Sampla on Monday.

A spokesperson for the CM's office said Badal had also directed that in case deputy commissioners and senior superintendents of police were functionally required during these visits, they should ensure their presence on such occasions.

The CM said no dereliction of duty on the part of the officer concerned would be tolerated in any case. He also directed the chief secretary to issue detailed guidelines to all DCs in this regard to ensure strict compliance of these instructions.
