It has happened again. A woman in Ram Darbar, Seema, was conned of her silver chain and gold earrings by three beggar children here on Tuesday morning with the promise of doubling the jewellery.

Three children aged around 10 came to Seema's house to beg for food, sia dthe police; as she talked to them, they claimed they could double her gold and silver.

Convinced, or possibly hypnotised, Seema gave them the jewellery. They simply asked her to close her eyes for the miracle, and then handed her some items covered with a cloth. They asked her to open it after seven days, and she'd have double the jewellery. An impatient Seema opened the cloth bundle as soon as the kids left, and found a 5-ruppee coin inside.

A case of cheating has been registered. This month, two such cases have been reported earlier to the police. On July 6, a 55-year-old woman was conned of 60 gm of gold (worth Rs 1.6 lakh) by two persons by promising to double it, in Sector 38-west. Two days after that, a woman in Sector 27 alleged that a similar man-woman duo had conned her of two gold bangles and a pair of earrings along with cash Rs 5,000.
