The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan seems to have motivated people as the residential sectors here are a lot cleaner than what they used to be.
The most affected areas — sectors 15, 16, 4 and 7 —where complaints about unhygienic conditions were common have now have spruced up.
Sector 15 has been given a makeover with clean roads, which were earlier dirty. A major concern in the area was the ‘Apni Mandi’. Residents used to complain to authorities about the waste left behind on the ground, right opposite their houses. They claimed that sanitation workers did not clean the venue immediately and the place started to smell. However, the problem does not persist.
Roshan Lal, a resident, said, “For the past few days, we have been relieved of the garbage and the stench. Sweepers visit the place more frequently now. Even the small piles seen occasionally are the daily waste from the houses. And this is cleared twice daily by the sweepers.
Residents of Sector 16 are a happier lot because, they claim, of the roads in front of their homes which are a lot tidier now.
Inhabitants also claimed to take better care of their surroundings. Niharika Sharma, a resident, said, “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has created awareness among the residents and they are vigilant about garbage. Moreover, sanitation workers also regularly clean the area, which is good for us.”
