More than 2,000 Bhakhra Beas Management Board (BBMB) labourers organised a rally under the banner of Himachal Kisan Sabha and Center of Indian Trade Union (CITU) in Mandi on Wednesday.
The labourers submitted a memorandum to BBMB authorities through Mandi deputy commissioner Sandeep Kadam. They are demanding restoration of jobs and roll back of BBMB decision.
CITU secretary Rajesh Kumar said that BBMB was producing 990 MW electricity and production of single unit now cost them around 15 paisa per unit and BBMB was earning huge profits by selling electricity on higher rates, whereas they had done nothing for the welfare of labourers.
Rajesh said that few labourers had now crossed the retirement age of 60 years and needed financial security and BBMB should share its moral and social responsibility.
He added that more than 5,000 posts of various categories were lying vacate in BBMB and many of these posts could be filled up by adjusting these labourers. Rajesh added that if BBMB failed to accept their demands then the labourers would gherao BBMB chief engineer office at Sundernagar on March 12.
