The water level of Pong dam was recorded at 1,337.52 ft, 31.60 ft less than that recorded last year (1,369.12 ft), a spokesman said here.

The level of the Ranjit Sagar dam on Tuesday touched the 519.94-metre mark, 5.16 metres more than the level recorded last year on the same day.

The water inflow in Bhakra remained 48,733 cusecs against 44,727 last year and the release was 25,500 cusecs against 35,791 cusecs last year. The Pong dam’s inflow was recorded at 25,815 cusecs, against 38,102 cusecs on the same day last year, while that of the Ranjit Sagar dam was 14,198 cusecs against 15,101 last year.

The water level of Madhopur head works has been recorded at 15,859 cusecs against 6,502 cusecs on the same day last year.

DECISION ON REDUCING WATER RELEASE

With water level in the Pong dam remaining “worrisome” due to “deficient” rains in catchment areas, the Bhakra Beas Management Board on Tuesday said a decision on cutting down water release from the reservoir will be taken in consultation with three partnering states next week.

The BBMB has already alerted partnering states Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan about the possibility of cutting down water release to these states in the wake of “lower” water level in the Pong dam.
