The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday granted bail to Harpreet Singh Lamba, who was arrested in the international-drug-racket case in which dismissed Punjab Police officer and Arjuna Award winning wrestler Jagdish Bhola is one of the accused.
On March 22 last year, Fatehgarh Sahib police had lodged the first-information report (FIR) at Sirhind under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
After his arrest on a charge of keeping 5-kilogram pseudoephedrine (chemical raw material for synthetic drugs), Ambala resident Harpreet Singh Lamba was put inside the high-security Nabha jail.
On Thursday, his bail petition came up for hearing before the court headed by justice M Jeyapaul and was allowed.
However, the judge adjourned the bail petition of co-accused Kulbir Singh, arrested on a charge of keeping 10-kg pseudoephedrine, to April 4 for the filing of reply by the state government.
Kulbir Singh is also behind bars in the high-security Nabha prison and named in some other cases as well. The Bhola case relates to a smuggling racked exposed by the Patiala police.
