Death-row convict Devinderpal Singh Bhullar's wife has welcomed the Supreme Court's stay order on his execution, though is still sceptical about the outcome of the apex court's decision to have a relook at its judgment in which it had rejected her husband's plea for commuting his death sentence to a life term.

Bhullar is a convict in the Delhi bomb blast in 1993 that had killed nine people and injured 25, including the then Youth Congress president, MS Bitta.

Speaking over the phone from Canada, Navneet Kaur Bhullar on Saturday said that it was a welcome development, but added that nothing could be said till something "positive" came out. "Such things have happened many times before. Even earlier, we came close to freeing my husband from the gallows, but things took a U-turn at the last moment and we were left dejected."

"Again, I have a feeling that we are close to getting justice for him. I cannot comment until something positive happens," she added. She said her lawyers now wanted her to come to India, though that depended on her health.
