The Bihar Regiment Association held a get together for its serving and veteran officers at Chandimandir Military Station on Sunday.

The function was attended by about 60 officers, their families and war widows from Chandigarh, SAS Nagar, Panchkula and also from far off places in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Mumbai and Rajasthan.

Lt Gen KS Mann (retd), Maj Gen DP Singh (retd) and Brig DK Mohan (retd) were among the most decorated veterans who graced the occasion.

Savita Rana, widow of Ashok Chakra awardee Lt Col SS Rana, also attended the function. The message of Colonel of the Regiment Lt Gen AK Bakshi was read out at the get together where he appreciated the sacrifices and gallantry of the veterans who had brought the Regiment to the pinnacle.

He also praised the gallantry of Maj Anup Joseph Manjali, the only recipient of the Kirti Chakra this year.

The Bihar Regt is one of the most highly decorated Infantry Regiments. Post Independence, it has been awarded three Ashok Chakras, two Maha Vir Chakras and 13 Kirti Chakras, as well as Battle Honour “BATALIK” and Theatre Honours “East Pakistan” and “Kargil”. War veterans and serving new generation of the Regiment shared the experiences and cherished the old memories at the get together.

“The Bihar Regiment is one of the youngest regiments of the Indian Army. Its officers and men have worked very hard over the past 70 years to establish a reputation for professionalism, hard work and fearlessness on the battlefield and in counter insurgency,” defence expert Mandeep Bajwa said.
