Gloom spread in Chandigarh as soon as news of lieutenant colonel Bikramjeet Singh’s death reached the city.
Brigadier RS Mann of the western command informed his parents about his death. Luvpreet Kaur, the mother, was inconsolable while the father, Major Paramjit Singh (retired), was trying to cope with the tragedy.
Chandigarh Municipal Corporation mayor Subhash Chawla visited the family. Relatives and family friends also offered their condolences. Policemen have been stationed around the house. The lieutenant colonel had put in 14 years’ service. His last posting was in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan.
He is survived by his wife, Navneet Kaur, and 8-year-old daughter, Ramneet Kaur. Navneet is a teacher in Jammu and used to reside in Mohali before her marriage. Bikramjeet’s cousin Gurpreet Kaur said he was supposed to come home soon. The body reached around 6pm by helicopter. The cremation will take place around 3pm on Friday with full military honours.
