Tributes were paid in Birmingham on Friday to Amritsar-born Mata Jaswant Kaur Digpal, one of the city's prominent Sikh community leaders, who died earlier this week at the age of 105.

Digpal, who was born in 1908, died at Edgbaston's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and leaves behind a family of 302 members, reports from Birmingham said.

A large number of people gathered for a procession on Friday to celebrate her life. People gathered at Guru Gobind Singh Gurdwara, which was set up with the help of her late husband, Sardar Gian Singh Digpal, who died in 2003.

Mata Jaswant Kaur Digpal was known for raising funds to help women and children in Punjab, particularly for educational resources.
