A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party led by state president Sanjay Tandon met the adviser to the administrator, KK Sharma, and submitted a memorandum with the demands related to rehabilitation of Colony 5 residents and merger of various villages into the municipal corporation. The delegation stressed upon the need of extension in time limit as the schoolgoing children will suffer a lot due to shifting of the residents from the colony to Dhanas. They also demanded that the school in Maloya be made functional immediately. Besides this, the rehabilitation colony is not ready to shift as there are several problems regarding basic amenities like water and electricity etc.
The delegation also brought to the notice of the adviser that most of the residents of various villages of Chandigarh were not willing to be merged into municipal corporation, Chandigarh, as the Panchayati Raj system was functioning very well. Tandon said that the residents of erstwhile merged villages are suffering the same problems including extension of Lal Dora, sewerage and electricity etc. which they were facing before being merged with the municipal corporation. "If the administration wants to merge these villages, the notification regarding extension of Lal Dora should be issued and only after that the villages be merged,"the delegation said.
KK Sharma, after hearing the delegation, immediately directed the officials concerned to improve the basic amenities and also assured the delegation that the school will be made functional immediately and mid-day meal will also be provided to the children. Regarding the issue of merger of villages, the adviser assured that the points would be discussed with the officials concerned and needful would be done.
