The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold its crucial meet on Monday to decide the party candidate from the city for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Party affairs in-charge, Chandigarh, Aarti Mehra arrived in the city late on Sunday evening. Party general secretary Prem Kaushik said, "Party affairs in-charge has arrived in the city and she will hold meetings with the party workers and leaders about party's strategy for the upcoming polls. However, he refused to divulge more details."
Sources said as many as 10 names were doing the rounds in party circles for Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat, including local party unit president Sanjay Tandon, former MPs, Satya Pal Jain and Harmohan Dhawan.
Party sources said before taking workers' opinion on the names, they were likely to be discussed in the party's election committee.
A workers convention held last week to take workers' view on party's candidature at Punjab BJP office in Sector 37. The convention had failed miserably as workers of different groups came to blows and meet was abruptly ended.
Meanwhile, the BJP claimed that as many as 105 Congress partymen joined the party on Sunday. They joined the BJP at a function also attended by Sanjay Tandon and local vice-president Raghuvir Lal Arora. Tandon welcomed the newly joined members.
