BJP holds run to remember Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

Hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party workers (BJP) and residents from the tricity participated in a marathon 'Run for Unity' held to observe death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Sukhna Lake on Sunday.

The marathon was flagged off by former army chief General VP Malik.

The BJP claimed that more than 5,000 people led by OP Dhankar, national coordinator, Statue of Unity Programme, participated in the marathon.

Speaking at the event, Dhankar said the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust was erecting a statue of Sardar Patel at Gujarat. "The statue of unity is an initiative of Gujarat government meant to pay tribute to Sardar Patel by erecting the world's tallest statue at 182 m in his honour," he said, adding that the statue would not only be an architectural marvel, but a monument of national significance.

Dhankar added that more than 30 lakh people participated in this run in over 1,100 locations across India. The rally was flagged off in the presence of Lt Gen (retd) PN Hoon, BJP Chandigarh chief Sanjay Tandon, Punjab assistant media advisor Vineet Joshi, BJP leaders Satya Pal Jain and Harmohan Dhawan, Haryana Janhit Congress leader Chander Mohan, former Punjab minister Balramji Dass Tandon, former Punjab DGP PC Dogra, members of Patanjali Yog Peeth, Art of Living, gurdwaras, temples, students from schools, colleges and other institutes, industry representatives, industrial associations heads and Vyapaar Mandal members of the BJP.
