Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Panchkula made the shopkeepers close their shops to mark a protest over their leader’s death in Mansa Devi Complex (MDC) on Sunday night.

Ashutosh Bharadwaj, Bharatiya Yuva Morcha block president, was shot dead in an attack by three people while total six have been named in the case. Two are absconding.

“We requested shopkeepers in Sectors 7, 15, 11 and 20 to close their shops for two hours. Our purpose was not to harass public and make shop owners to suffer loss. It was a symbolic protest,” said district president Vishal Seth, who led the BJP workers in the markets. The party workers raised slogans against the Haryana gover nment and the local administration. Other BJP leaders BB Singhal, Gian Chand Gupta and Sham Lal Bansal were also present in the protest.

State BJP president Ram Bilas Sharma on Tuesday evening visited the residence of Bharadwaj. He met Krishan Bharadwaj, father of the victim, and expressed condolences. Later during a press conference, Sharma said an ACP rank officer had misbehaved with them and demanded his suspension long with ASI Malkiat Singh, who is investigating officer of the case. Sharma demanded CBI probe in the case.

He alleged that the murder took place due to silent support of Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda to the goons. The BJP leader demanded that the government should give Rs 50 lakh and Rs 20 lakh compensations to Bharadwaj and his i nj ure d brother Rahul, respectively.

The police produced the accused in the court on Tuesday. The court sent Ajay, Zorawar, RD Swami and Arun to 7-day police custody while Saroj was sent to judicial custody.

A juvenile son of Saroj has also been made an accused. “We secured the police custody as we have to recover revolver, which was used to shot at Ashutosh Bharadwaj, and two swords,” said SHO of Mansa Devi Complex police station inspector Ajay Disodia.
